How to access library resources online

How to find a book

From the library's homepage at http://sherrod.etsu.edu, select Research Tools > Find books & media at ETSU, then select one of the search options.  For more advanced http://libraries.etsu.edu/search methods, select Advanced Search.  Click on Help for assistance in learning more about how to use the catalog.

 

How to find materials on reserve

From the library's homepage at http://sherrod.etsu.edu, select Research Tools > Find books & media at ETSU>Course reserves.  You may search by instructor name or course number.  Note that many reserve readings are in electronic form and can be read online.  To access an electronic resource, click on the title of the item you want to read.  It is a link to a PDF copy of the article.  You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to read reserves online.  You may download it free from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html

 

How to check your library record

From the library's homepage at http://sherrod.etsu.edu, select Research Tools > Find books & media at ETSU.  Select My Record, located in a box at the right of the screen and then enter the information requested. (It’s the same user name and password that you use to check your ETSU email.) You will see what materials you have checked out and when they are due. You may also renew print items online.

 

How to find an ebook

From the library's homepage at http://sherrod.etsu.edu, select Collections > E- Books, then use the Search box to search for an E-Book.  Sherrod Library provides access to two E-Book collections, netLibrary and Safari Tech Books Online, containing over 30,000 books in electronic form.  Use the Help function in netLibrary to learn how to use it. 

 

How to find an article in a journal or magazine

From the library's homepage at http://sherrod.etsu.edu, select Research Tools > Find articles, search databases, then select the general subject area your search is in, and then select an appropriate database or select a title you want from the alphabetical list at the top of the page.  If you do not know what databases to search, consult a librarian or ask your professor. It is generally best to do a keyword search.  Use the Help function in the databases to learn how to use the databases efficiently.

 

How to find a newspaper article

From the library's homepage at http://sherrod.etsu.edu, select Research Tools > Find articles, search databases then from  Browse Databases by Name click on ‘L’, and from that list select LexisNexis. 

 

How to Find Legal Information

From the library's homepage at http://sherrod.etsu.edu, select Research Tools > Find articles, search databases then from  Browse Databases by Name click on ‘L’, and from that list select LexisNexis. This database contains full text of Supreme Court decisions, many other court decisions, and full text of individual State Codes Annotated.  The other option is to select Research Tools > Find articles, search databases then from  Browse Databases by Name click on ‘W’, and from that list select Westlaw Campus Research.  Law-related content includes legal encyclopedias, law reviews and journals, federal and state statutes, regulations and court decisions.
