Faculty Bookplate Event

Message from the Dean

Welcome to the Charles C. Sherrod Library’s annual Faculty Bookplate Event. I am honored you are joining with your campus colleagues in congratulating our ETSU faculty who earned promotion or tenure in 2022-2023.

A library’s collections can do more than support research and teaching. Collections can honor a person or commemorate an event. In that spirit, today we honor and commemorate our faculty’s achievements with bookplates added to books in our collection.

Our participants selected these titles. Each selection is both professional and personal. Some of our honorees also shared a few words on what this book means to them. In this program please find their selections and their personal messages of meaning.

While this day will pass, this moment in time will be remembered. In the near future a student will pull a book off the shelf, open the cover and see one of these celebratory messages. They may well take pause and realize that the book in their hand provides more than some conveyed information. This book also conveys a special meaning a faculty member, to a library, and to a campus.

I wish to express my thanks to our celebrated faculty for sharing their achievements with the library. Also, many thanks to our Sherrod Library faculty and staff and to the Office of the Provost for their work and support in bringing this event to our university.

And finally, my thanks to you for joining us for this special event.

Be well and keep reading,

David P. Atkins
Dean of University Libraries
