Accessing Library eResources

Sherrod Library uses a combination of OpenAthens and Proxy to authenticate users to library resources. In addition to authentication, some of our resources such as EBSCO and Safari Books also provides personalized accounts utilizing your ETSU login. Users both on and off campus may be required to sign on in order to access library resources.

We highly recommend that you access articles and eBooks through the Library Website or OneSearch.  This ensures that you have access to all library subscribed content.  Use the following information below to help you navigate the login process.

If you are trying to authenticate through an outside website such as Google Scholar or direct to one of our content providers (Gale, EBSCO, Science Direct, Wiley, etc), use the menu links on your left.

Log in to OpenAthens or Proxy

When you try and access a library resource from the website or OneSearch, you may be prompted to log in. Log in with your ETSU username (do not include @etsu.edu) and password for access.

In most cases, you will see this log in screen:

On occasion, you may be presented with an OpenAthens branded login page. You will need to search for East Tennessee State University under "Find your organisation" in order to log in successfully.

Some helpful tips:

  • Using auto-fill or a password manager to log in can be problematic. If you update your ETSU password, please note that D2L, GoldLink, and Library logins are commonly seen as separate entries. You may have to update your password for each one.

  • If you are having trouble logging in, please refrain from multiple repeated login attempts in a short period of time. You may trigger a lockout that can last up to 30 minutes. Multiple attempts during this time only resets the lockout timer. Library staff or ITS cannot reset the lock.
