Off-campus access to electronic resources (online journal articles, eBooks, research databases) and all access to interlibrary loan service is limited to current ETSU students, faculty, faculty emeriti, and staff.
Electronic Resources PolicyIf you have found an article, video, or eBook while off-campus and not through the library website, some content providers allow you to directly authenticate to ETSU using OpenAthens. This page will give you general guidance on the process and how to tell if you are authenticated. It is important to note however, signing in through a content provider does not guarantee access to all content. Access to the content still depends on whether the library has paid for a subscription. However, if you are still unable to access the content after signing in, you can always request the item through InterLibrary Loan.
Most content providers provide an "Access provided by" or "Brought to you by" message if you are detected on an institutional network. If you see this message, you have access to the content that is subscribed to by ETSU. No further login is necessary.
Each content provider is different in their approach signing in via Institution. Some vendors such as JSTOR will provide a list of institutions where you can select East Tennessee State University. Others will just have an OpenAthens link.
If you arrive at an OpenAthens branded login screen, be sure to identify East Tennessee State University as your organization.
