Class Readings/Course Reserves

Faculty instructions for course reserve

Copyright and "Fair Use"

The Sherrod Library follows US copyright law (Title 17 of the U.S. Code) and the Fair Use Doctrine in Section 107.  The "fair use" guidelines the library uses are:

  • Use of one chapter/journal article or 10% - whichever is less.
  • An item may be placed on reserve for one semester. Repeat use requires permission.
  • Reserve items should represent only a small portion of class materials.
  • Items outside the bounds of "fair use" require permission. Please allow time for this when you submit your course reserves list.
