Visiting the Library

Faculty and Nursing graduate students are welcome to visit and study in both the Sherrod Library and the Medical Library (VA Bldg 4, Fourth Street, VA campus).

Instruction and Orientation

Sherrod Library Instruction Request:
https://libraries.etsu.edu/use/instruction/request
  • Because library instruction is often in high demand at peak periods of the academic year, please make your request at least two weeks in advance of the desired date.
  • Please provide a clear description of the course/session objective, amount of in-class time available, number of sessions needed, and whether a gradable exercise is needed.
  • Sessions can range from single-session instruction on resources and basic searching to more in-depth or multi-session discussion of topics such as evidence-based healthcare, advanced literature searching, how to read and evaluate nursing literature, or health literacy.
  • Faculty are welcome to propose other topics or request a consultation to discuss their course needs and how our librarians can help meet these needs.

Clinical Support

If you need evidence-based resources to inform your clinical care or case-based teaching:

  • Contact the Medical Library via medref@etsu.edu.
  • Please indicate the needed turnaround time and whether your question is for an urgent patient-care decision (this email is only monitored on weekdays), knowledge building for future similar cases, or to support case-based learning for a specific classroom/learning session.
  • All of our medical librarians are HIPAA-trained for discussing real cases and can recommend specific articles that best answer your clinical questions. It is helpful to receive clinical questions in a PICO format but this is not required.
