Research Methods in Education

Educational researchers employ many of the same tools as researchers across the social sciences, using qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods approaches, with a strong focus on ethics, especially in the case of research with children. Educational researchers conduct research in a variety of educational contexts, including classroom-based research, research in higher education and policy focused research. Observational and action research approaches are widely used within educational research, as are evaluation methods.  For an introduction to doing educational research, try Introduction to Educational Research: A Critical Thinking Approach, by W. Newton Suter.
