Educational researchers employ many of the same tools as researchers across the social sciences, using qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods approaches, with a strong focus on ethics, especially in the case of research with children. Educational researchers conduct research in a variety of educational contexts, including classroom-based research, research in higher education and policy focused research. Observational and action research approaches are widely used within educational research, as are evaluation methods.
