Events Coming to You Fall 2024

This autumn, the Sherrod Library plans to bring to the table several different events and outreach activities, some new, many familiar. As always, the library plans to facilitate dead week stress-relief activities for students, with crafts, special visitors, and more. Halloween events are also returning, with a Library Trick-or-Treat, open to the ETSU community from 11-2, and Ghost Stories in the Student Commons, from 6:00 to 7:30. Trick-or-treating will once again include multiple stations with candy throughout the library, and Ghost Stories will include storytellers from the storytelling department and some crowd contributions.

A special event this semester will come in the form of the Innovation Commons Grand Opening. Expect tours and demonstrations of the library's new maker space and digital media lab and learn what you can create!

Recurring events this semester will include Library Game Nights, Craft Hangouts, the Creative Writing Club, and the Diverse Characters Book Club. Last year, many of these events grew and gained a crowd of regular participants. These repeat events have been a great way for Librarians, who often only see students, particularly undergrads, in one-off instruction sessions or research appointments, to interact with and build relationships within the student body. While students often appreciate the library as a study space, and a space for help, these club events help us all better appreciate the community that libraries provide.

If you haven’t attended a library event before, make this year the one to try it out. Whether you are a student, staff, or faculty, the library offers something to everyone.
