Happy 25th, Sherrod Library

On Tuesday, April 9, the Sherrod Library celebrated its 25th anniversary with speeches, cake, and spectacle. ETSU's Chief Operating Officer remarked on the timelessness of the building, its exterior classically styled with roman arches and red brick. Inside the building too, remarks addressed the changing needs a library must address in the information era. While the building 25 years ago was designed to hold over 700,000 volumes, today many spaces are being re-purposed in order to address the changing digital needs of the current generation of researchers, scholars, and students. A prime example of that comes in the redesign of the second floor, which will soon house a makerspace, improved student study spaces, and more.

After the speeches concluded, the library's birthday was celebrated with over a hundred slices of cake provided to visitors, lawn games (moved indoors, due to the rain), a bluegrass band, street sign making, and tabling featuring all of the library's different occupants. Prestigious guests included Provost McCorkle, COO Jeremy Ross, Student Body President, Trent White, Bucky, and Pepper. For all that came out a great time was had as we celebrated and honored the space which has fostered so much creativity and scholarship within the ETSU community for the past twenty-five years.
